Something is in the water in LA these days. Freak injuries are happening everywhere.

USC QB Mark Sanchez went down in Friday's practice with a dislocated knee. Sanchez injured his knee while jumping and tossing a warm-up pass. It is reported that he will be returning before the season opener.

Across town UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel took another hit as his QB also hit the dirt in Saturday's practice. UCLA's Ben Olsen hurt himself for the SECOND time in five months and about the millionth time in what seems like year 10 of his tenure at UCLA. Ben broke his foot while backing away from center, the EXACT same way he broke it in spring drills. He will be out for at least 2 months! Hey Norm Chow, it might be time to put the shot gun in.

This leaves the Bruins with Kevin Craft, a junior college transfer, and redshirt freshman Chris Forcier to compete for the starting job. About the same position that Rick left the Baltimore Ravens in for 2008. If neither of these kids work they might have to see if Rick can petition the NCAA for a 6th year of eligibility. Don't beat on that getting approved.

This event, coupled with the soup opera that is Rich Rodriguez at Michigan, leads us to ask, "Which new coach has had the worst beginning?" - Slick Rick or Rich Rod?

A'Maizen Blues

Ohio State has beat the Maize and Blue one more time this year. First it was the head to head game in November, then it was Terrelle Pryor in March, now it seems that one more victory has been scored by those rivals to the south. Justin Boren, a 2007 starting lineman for the Wolverines, announced today that he will be transferring to The Ohio State University and begin play in the 2009 season.

Justin, as you will remember from an earlier post, left Michigan because he felt that the program's "family values have eroded" under new coach Rich Rodriguez. It appears that the Buckeye family must being doing pretty good. How could it not be when Jim Tressel reminds us all so much of Mr. Rogers.

Poor Michigan! They have had some rough times lately. This headline proves how jaded they have become.

"We Are Family! Get up Ev'rybody and Sing!"

Well it seems University of Michigan coach, Rich Rodriguez just can't escape controversy. Michigan has lost two starting offensive lineman this offseason. The most recent, Justin Boren, was upset with the transition between Rich and former coach Lloyd Carr, citing "lack of family values" for his reason to leave. Well coach Rodriguez has responded to the allegations and it seems that things are getting better. In fact the M Club at the University of Michigan has made up a new entrance for the Wolverine squad. This year they are coming out to the band playing Sister Sledge and touching a great new banner. Here is an illustration speculating what we are in for this fall.

Back to Class for Coaches

Penn State is starting a class this fall that examines how Joe Paterno handles the media. That gave The College Football Guys an idea. What other coaches could we study to learn valuable skills for the future, or at least get an easy A.

"Fat is not to be had without labour." Oh Mangino, sometimes you make it too easy.
