Pro Playoff Ads By Playoff PAC

In case you happen to live outside the TV markets of Boise, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and Salt Lake City, here is the ad you will miss this week while watching your BCS games.

Playoff PAC is a political action committee that is working to raise awareness and gain support for congressional legislation to force out the BCS and institute a college football playoff. During this week's BCS games the group will air the above ad in the Boise, DFW, and Salt Lake City markets to further enrage "non-qualifier" fans and supports. Mud slinging seems to work for elections, lets all pray it works for a playoff.

For listeners of this site's podcast, we aired this excerpt of the "Dan Patrick Show" for the "final score" of our Week 14 Podcast. Click here if you would like to hear Dan Patrick's entire interview with BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock. Make sure you have a vomit bag handy.

For more information about the work of Playoff PAC you can visit their website at www.playoffpac.com.

Why Should You Care If Cowboys Win?

Bedlam.

How can one word have so much meaning?

To the college football fan, bedlam is a rivalry game played between two schools from the plains of Oklahoma.

However, according to Webster's Dictionary bedlam is "a place, scene, or state of uproar and confusion."

Saturday night in Stillwater, OK the Cowboys of Oklahoma State have the chance to truly release bedlam on college football and unleash a storm on the BCS.

How is this possible you ask? If OSU is victorious Texas Tech will represent the Big 12 South in the conference championship game next weekend in Kansas City. That's right folks, Texas Tech would finish the season 11-1, the same record as Texas. Thanks to a last second touchdown by Michael Crabtree a couple weeks ago the Red Raiders have a tie breaker advantage.

With a victory Saturday night, OSU leaves title contenders Texas and Oklahoma sitting on the sidelines, unable to play for their own conference title, and essentially locked out of the BCS Championship Game.

Who then is your national title match up? Until now it has been assumed that the BCS Championship game would come down to the champions of the SEC and Big 12, this year's best conferences. But, lets assume Texas Tech defeats Missouri in the Big 12 Championship, would the BCS really accept a team that lost by 43 just last week? We think not.

Bedlam.

What match up then, in this new "Big 12 champion free world," makes the BCS Championship Game legit?

Assuming Alabama and Florida make it into the SEC Championship without incurring any other loses this weekend, the BCS will place them as one participant, but who shall they play?

If Oregon State defeats Oregon, USC experiences the same fate as Oklahoma and Texas, no conference championship.

This leaves us with just one option, Penn State. Another one loss Big Ten team sitting in the clubhouse watching and waiting for someone to pull a "Greg Norman" as the leaders finish.

Deja Vu all over again! A slow, Big Ten team that most will say an undefeated Utah and Boise State stand a better chance against the SEC foe. How much more of this can we take as college football fans?

The choice is yours this weekend. If you are a fan of a college football playoff, then you need to see the Cowboys set bedlam loose this weekend by defeating Oklahoma. If you love your BCS then a Sooner victory allows for the perpetuation of the system with minimal damage.

Will "uproar and confusion" prevail late Saturday night in Stillwater, or will the BCS bring "clarity" to the outcome of college football?

BCS Politics

Watching the third, and thankfully final, presidential debate last night, I was thinking about this Sunday's unveiling of the first BCS ranking of the season. One singular thought went through my mind. If I was a fan of a non-BCS program, which coach would I want to plead my case in front of the voters?

We all know that in order for a non-BCS team to get their shot at money and fame a top 12 in the final BCS standings is required. We also know that the majority of the BCS is now driven by the results of the coaches' poll and the Harris poll. Much like the American voting public both polls are chalked full of voters that have limited knowledge of each individual game played on Saturday. For the most part their opinions are based off of team records, ESPN highlights and soundbites from each program.

Not only is it a necessity for a non-BCS program to finish the season undefeated it is imperative to have a coach that can promote the program to the voters. In a season where it is possible that there will be more than one option for that final BCS spot, it is critical to have a leader that can get those extra votes.

So we ask YOU the question. Which coach would you want to plead your BCS case in front of the voters this fall?

Below are the choices, complete with video footage, so even "Joe the Plumber" can figure it out.

Chris Peterson, Boise State University.

Kyle Whittingham, University of Utah. This video is not as clever as the Utes' Rap this year, but very strong, non-attack ad.

Bronco Mendenhall, BYU. After this video you might want to make this man your next president.

Brady Hoke, Ball State. He can sure get the blood going before a big bed race!

Maybe Ball State should go with alumnus, Brian Collins. Seems his first job was the same as Sara Palin's.

Todd Graham, Tulsa.

What We Learned Week Three

After putting our collective heads back on straight, here are some things we, The College Football Guys, learned this weekend in college football.

Even though USC dominated The Ohio State the rest of the PAC looked more like the WAC going a collective 3-7 for the weekend, including 0-2 vs. the Big 12 and 0-4 vs. the MWC!

One would have thought ASU would have been 3-0 heading into the Georgia game this week, however it appears that they watched too much coverage of the BYU/Washington game last week as they too could not keep a 35 yard field goal from being blocked.

Not only did UNLV walk away from Tempe with the biggest win in program history, they also received a tidy $400,000 for their, um, troubles? The school immediately placed their money on USC to win the BCS Title.

It is obvious that the emotional stress the Cal football team suffered due to the removal of their most devoted and avid fans from the Oak Grove this week affected their play on the field vs Maryland. Trust me it wasn't "jet lag," it was emotional trauma.

Virginia Tech finally played a home game that carried some significance, allowing us the opportunity to learn that the Hokies have found a new way to make "Chicago Maroon" and Burnt Orange look terrible together.

So far it seems that when it comes to winners for major non-conference games the schools with the best looking women are winning...

Could Texas Tech play someone, ANYONE, so we could have some idea how good their offense is? U Mass coming to town this weekend. That makes two Division I-AA schools this year! Maybe they should just join the ACC! At least Mike Leach continues to bring us quality entertainment.

16 Major League Baseball teams outscored the "newfangled" spread offense of the mighty Auburn Tigers on Saturday. Auburn got the 3-2 victory, however Ohio State's 3 points only got them embarrassed again on national TV. BTW - UCLA would have lost to all but two MLB teams on Saturday.

Speaking of UCLA, Provo wants former BYU 0ffensive coordinator Norm Chow to know that they are thankful for the memories, but they are doing just fine with out him. UCLA also needs to rethink scheduling a week three games in Utah. Mike Stoops of Arizona might want to do the same with New Mexico.

Middle Tennessee State reminded us this week that football is indeed a game of inches.

Husky fans learned Saturday that "Boomer Sooner" is every bit as annoying as the Trojan's "Victory." At this point in the season it seems that the nation will get the opportunity to decide for themselves on January 8th 2009 in Miami. Maybe FOX can get Ryan Seacrest to come to Miami and encourage fans to vote. Heck we can't wait that long, lets just decide today.

Ingredients of an Upset

If your a team in a non-BCS conference and are looking for a way to pull the upset of a BCS power it seems we have found the solution. All you have to do is put together a cool song and a bad rap and you are good to go. Oh and you have to have some talent on the field as well.

ECU and Utah have both and showed it on Saturday.
